Honeybees Spotlight: Ashley By: Hornets.com | October 17, 2011
Hometown: New Orleans. Year as a Honeybee: First.
Previous dance experience:
I have been dancing since I was 2 years old. My mom owns the studio I’ve danced at since then...needless to say I didn’t have much of a choice to not dance! I was on my high school dance team and captain my senior year. I then went on to cheer for the New Orleans Saints for four years. I currently coach Tulane University’s dance team and Dominican High School’s dance team. And then there is of course the BEST team in the NBA I dance for...the Honeybees!
What I love about being a Honeybee:
I love being a Honeybee because it enables me to reach out to other girls in the New Orleans area and become such a positive role model for them. My goal through Honeybees is to teach girls of all ages to reach for their highest dreams, no matter what they are. To know that I can make a difference in someone’s life through dance is an amazing feeling. And of course, game day is ALWAYS an amazing experience to be be a part of.
What I love about dancing:
That I am able to let all my emotions go on the court and just go out there and have fun. It’s "Ashley time" when I’m dancing, and I want the people watching me to feel just as pumped up as I am.
What I love about New Orleans:
I love how New Orleans is really a small city. Everyone knows everyone somehow. It’s fun when you go out and meet someone new and you realize they know at least five of your friends as well. We are all connected and support our awesome city!
What I love to do when I’m not performing with the Honeybees:
Working out has always been one of my favorite things to do (my dad was Mr. Louisiana, so it runs in the family). I also love to surf and now have really been getting into the Yolo boards.
