Honeybees Spotlight: Brenna By: Hornets.com | October 7, 2011
Hometown: Arabi. Year as a Honeybee: First.
Previous dance experience:
I started dancing when I was 3 and haven’t stopped since! I began with our neighborhood ballpark dance team, which led to years of studio training, dance revues and competitions. I’ve trained in all types of studio dance, and I’ve traveled to various places, including New York and Hawaii, to perform and to take lessons. In high school, I was a member of the Carmelettes dance team all four years and named co-captain my senior year. And now, I can’t wait to dance with the NBA’s hottest dance team, the Honeybees!
What I love about being a Honeybee:
It’s exciting to be a part of a team of talented girls who all have the same drive and motivation to be the best we can at being a Honeybee. Whether it’s training, dancing, or making an appearance, everyone always has on their best attitudes and biggest smiles. I love the inspiration that the team gives me and the influence to represent the greatest city of them all, NOLA! I can’t wait to get out on the court and perform for the thousands of fans and supporting city. Get ready Hive, because this Bee will be BUZZIN’!
What I love about dancing:
What’s there not to love?! The movement, the freedom, the potential...dancing has so many aspects to it that make it such a stimulating experience. I love just forgetting about everything but the song on the radio and moving with the beats. In the car or on the streets...you’ll see me dancing! I think my parents knew to put me in dancing when I was out on the field playing shortstop, and the coach would yell at me to stop twirling in the dirt. Well, maybe cabbage ball wasn’t my thing, but once I started dancing...I haven’t stopped since!
What I love about New Orleans:
What I love most about New Orleans is the people. Easy as that. You can go up North and bring a bottle of hot sauce to spice up your grub, and you can go out West and still pop some jazz music into your radio. But you won’t find the napkin wavin’, trombone playin’ people anywhere but in the heart of New Orleans. Any place I go, it’s always an ease to share a smile and strike up a convo with the person next to me. Now, add in some spicy food and throw some beads, and you’ll have yourself the best time of the year...Mardi Gras!
What I love to do when I’m not performing with the Honeybees:
When I’m not playing music and dancing around the house, I’ll usually be hanging out with some friends or catching up with family. I also like to get in a workout usually once a day. When I really have some down time, I enjoy art, specifically painting and drawing. Sleeping is a favorite, but sometimes gets cut short due to homework and studying! I’m always busy and working toward something, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
